How to say day, month and year
To say which day, which month or which year, you just add the number to the Vietnamese word equivalent of day, month or year. Let’s take a look at these formulas:
ngày + number
tháng + number
năm + number
For ngày, applying the formula above, when we want to say the 28th, we say “ngày 28″ (or in spoken words, it’s “ngày hai mươi tám”).
As for tháng, there are 12 months in one year and we call them according to the order of the month. For example, the 1st month of the year is called “tháng 1″ (or “tháng một”), 2nd month of the year is “tháng 2″ (or “tháng hai”), 3rd month of the year is “tháng 3″ (or “tháng ba”) and so on. Last month of the year is 12th month and we call it “tháng 12″ (or “tháng mười hai”).

For năm, applying the formula above, when we want to say 2021 or the year of 2021, we say “năm 2021.”
The order
In Vietnamese, we say in the order of day, month and year. For example, October 8, 2021 is ngày 8 tháng 10 năm 2021. In spoken words, it is ngày tám tháng mười năm hai ngàn không trăm hai mươi mốt.
When you see date such as this 08-10-2021 in Vietnamese, always read in the order of day, month and year. In this case, it’s ngày 8 tháng 10 năm 2021, or October 8, 2021.
It is a bit different from English in which month comes first so be careful and don’t mix them up.
