So how do you learn Vietnamese with The Sims 4 when all Sims in the game speak Simlish? Well, you can’t learn a whole lot of Vietnamese, but you can still learn a few words from the culture they experience.
The Sims 4 City Living Expansion pack introduces food stalls with food from different cultures, including Vietnamese food. How exciting! What’s even more exciting is that the food menu actually lists Vietnamese food in Vietnamese language (without marks).
Where to find Vietnamese food stall in The Sims 4?
If you have unlocked City Living Expansion pack, head over to the city of San Myshuno. You will see some food stalls in the public area in some districts. These pop up randomly so it may be hard to look for a specific one. However, you can see multiple food stalls during festivals, which makes it easier to find Vietnamese food stall.
One guaranteed way to see Vietnamese food stall without waiting for festivals is to buy the food stall from build mode.
- Go to Build mode.
- Under Objects by function, select Activities and skills then click Show All.
- Place Vietnamese food stall on your lot.
- Hire a vendor to run your stall.
- Now you can order food from your Vietnamese food stall.
Vietnamese without marks
When you order from the Vietnamese food stall, you see a simple menu that consists of three popular Vietnamese food items. The three items are: Goi Cuon, Banh Mi, and Pho.
While these words resemble Vietnamese language, they are what we call “tiếng Việt không dấu” in Vietnamese, which means “Vietnamese without marks.”
Vietnamese without marks is not used in official writing and requires readers to decipher. It is often used in chats for quicker messaging, when your device doesn’t have Vietnamese keyboard or when you are not sure if the other device can view Vietnamese (with marks).
Vietnamese without marks is easier to read and decipher if the message is short and contains popular words. It should be avoided in long messages as it may cause confusion or unintended misunderstanding.
Vietnamese food in The Sims 4: writing and meaning
As mentioned above, “Goi Cuon,” “Banh Mi,” and “Pho” are written in Vietnamese without marks, so what is the correct writing for those dishes?

Gỏi cuốn, also commonly known as spring rolls, is a popular snack in Vietnam. They’re typically made with pork, shrimp, lettuce, and rice noodles all wrapped up in rice paper.
