While there are universities and colleges that offer Vietnamese language courses, not many offer study abroad programs in Vietnam. To make your search for such programs easier, I have compiled a list of universities and colleges that have study abroad programs in Vietnam. I hope you find it helpful.

These schools are listed in alphabetical order. Some of these programs are language immersion programs, while others focus more on social, culture, and other aspects. Some of them have updated information for current year while others have information from prior years.

It is best to contact the school directly for updated information regarding current year.

Appalachian State University

The Honors College from Appalachian State University offered a summer study abroad program in Vietnam called Biological Investigations in Vietnam in 2018. I do not know if this program is still active. It is best to check with them directly to see if they still offer the program.

Brown University

Brown University offers a few study abroad programs through SIT (School for International Training).

  • SIT IHP Health & Community. This is a multi-country study abroad program.
  • SIT Vietnam – Culture, Social Change & Development.

California State University Fullerton

The information I found was for a program in 2022 so you may want to contact them to see if they are still offering this program in the current year. This looks like a summer study abroad program in both Cambodia and Vietnam.

California State University Long Beach

The information I found was for a program in 2020 so I do not know if they have any current study abroad program in Vietnam. But since they offered it in the past, it’s best to contact them and confirm.

This is a short 3-week summer study abroad language immersion program at University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Students take classes in the morning and participate in activities and field trips in the afternoon.

Because this is a language immersion program, to apply for this program, there is a language requirement.

Prerequisite: VIET 111 and VIET 211 Accelerated Vietnamese (2 years of regular Vietnamese language courses)

Term: Summer

Cornell University

Cornell University offers a study abroad program in Vietnam through The Education Abroad Network (TEAN). Students can study at RMIT, an international university in Vietnam. The application deadlines are for 2020 and 2021 so I am not sure if this program is still available. It is best to confirm with the school directly for currently available programs.

Dartmouth College

Dartmouth College offers a study abroad program in Vietnam called Developing Vietnam. Students will take a 3-week intensive course in Vietnam and work with students from Fulbright University Vietnam, a liberal arts university in Ho Chi Minh City, to design a research project.

De Anza College

The information on their page was for a program in 2018 so I do not know if they have a similar program in current year. It is best to contact them directly to inquire about current programs.

De Anza College offered study abroad program in July 2018. Students could earn 8-14 units and join classes with Hoa Sen University. Students could also tour multiple cities Hanoi, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh, Vung Tau, etc.

Florida International University Honors College offers an interdisciplinary service-research study abroad program called “Cambodia & Vietnam: Their Place in American History.”

Fresno Pacific University

Fresno Pacific University offers a Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand study abroad program, in which students will visit all three countries. Courses include International Business, Religion and Culture of Vietnam, and Vietnam Study Abroad.

Loyola University Chicago offers a study abroad program in multiple countries Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. The available subject is Marketing. This program is for graduate and professional.

Marquette University

Marquette University offers a study abroad program at International University – Vietnam National University (HCM) in Vietnam. The International University has a buddy program in which students can be paired up with their current students.

Pitzer College

Pitzer College offers a summer study abroad program in collaboration with Hue University in Vietnam. The program lasts for 6 weeks from late May to early July.

Students will take a Modern Vietnam course and an intensive Vietnamese language course. This program is not only open to students from Pitzer College, but also students from Scripps College, Harvey Mudd College, Claremont McKenna College and Ponoma College with GPA 2.0 or higher.

This is not a study abroad program but rather an internship. Texas Tech University offers an international internship in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. This program is sponsored by CRCC Asia.

The School of Law at University of Akron offers Hanoi & Hue study abroad program in 2023.

Students can attend lectures conducted jointly with Hue University of law and Hanoi University of Law in Vietnam. Per their website, some highlight activities include but not limited to visits to an active trial at a trial-court level, local law firm operating in Hue, and historically significant sites.

There is currently not much information about study abroad in Vietnam, but the University of Georgia’s website indicates that they are initiating study abroad programs and internships in Vietnam. University of Houston

There is a mention of a Vietnam Study Abroad program for graduate students to learn about business practices, but there is not much information on the website. You can contact Vietnamese Studies office to find out more information.

University of Maryland offers a study abroad program in Vietnam and Singapore to study logistical and supply chain challenges.

University of Tennessee Knoxville

University of Tennessee Knoxville offers a study abroad program in Vietnam through The Education Abroad Network (TEAN). Students will be studying in RMIT, an international university in Vietnam, for a semester.

University of Washington

University of Washington’s Comparative History of Ideas offers study abroad program in Vietnam. This is not a language immersion program. Ability to speak Vietnamese is not required.

The program lasts from late August to mid September for 2023. Unfortunately, the deadline to register has passed for 2023 program, but you can check back for future programs.

Wheaton College Massachusetts offers study abroad program in Vietnam through SIT (School for International Training) program.

Yale University

Yale University offers an opportunity to study abroad in Vietnam and receive academic credit through SIT Vietnam programs. To participate and receive credit, participants need to submit two applications, one to the SIT (School for International Training) program and one to Yale to receive credit.

Prerequisite: none, but you need to take Vietnamese language as one of the courses.

Terms: Spring, Fall

Per SIT website, participants will get to visit popular attractions such as the Imperial City in Hue, UNESCO World Heritage Ha Long Bay, Ba Na Hills, Son Tra Peninsula etc., live with Vietnamese host families, interact with local university students, meet with government officials, research institutes, local and international companies, etc.

Humber College

Humber College offers a summer study abroad program in Vietnam. Students will take classes at National Economics University in Hanoi and University of Danang in Danang.
