When learning Vietnamese, it can be hard to know what resources are out there beyond the most obvious options. Over time, many tools, apps, websites, and courses surface through exploration, discussion, and shared experience.
This page is a growing collection of Vietnamese learning resources I’ve come across. They vary in format, approach, and level, and not all of them will suit every learner, but together they offer a broad starting point for exploring different ways to study Vietnamese.
Rather than recommendations, this list is meant as a reference. You’re encouraged to explore, evaluate what works for you, and adapt these resources to your own learning goals and pace.

This website was a great Vietnamese online dictionary with many examples in full sentences and pronunciation from natives back then. However, at the time of this writing, the audio did not work.

A good website to check the meanings of Vietnamese words. When you type a Vietnamese word without the marks, it shows all of the suggested words with and without marks. The Vietnamese vocabulary here is, however, limited and you might find many words without audio files or not in the suggested list.

A Vietnamese online dictionary with audio. Most of the audios are in Northern accent. They have many sample phrases, but not many Vietnamese full sentence examples.

This is not an online Vietnamese dictionary, but it has pronunciation for Vietnamese words that you search, related words and phrases.

Vietnamese Language Proficiency Test
If you are serious about learning Vietnamese language and want to test your proficiency, learn more about Vietnamese Language Proficiency Test in Vietnam.
New York University Continuing Education offers an Online Vietnamese Proficiency Exam (12-point), which gives you undergraduate credits (at U.S. colleges) if you pass. Per website, you are urged to discuss accreditation with the institution’s adviser before taking the exam.
Brigham Young University offers FLATS (Foreign Language Achievement Testing Services) tests in multiple languages including Vietnamese. The program allows students from across the United States to take FLATS test and receive up to 12 college credits. You can take their Vietnamese Language Test and receive up to 12 college credits for Vietnamese. It is advised that you check with your school and BYU before taking the exam.
